How Many Panels Do I Need in My Opening?

What Constitutes and Opening?
Common Panel Configurations
This is our recommendation; however, you may configure your plantation shutters any way you like.
Please keep in mind plantation shutters are designed to fit an opening. The shutter panels are movable to allow cleaning and access to the window. They are not designed to be moved and folded up against a wall routinely. The louvers are the control mechanism allowing rotation to provide light, ventilation, view and privacy.
- Determine which plantation shutters are right for you... Designer Series, Standard Wood, PolyDesign, etc. Comparison Chart
- Measure the width of your window opening.
- Based on the product you choose, use the least number of shutter panels possible greater than 1 panel.
- Maximum panel width is 48" for Designer Shutters
- Maximum panel width is 40" for Standard Wood
- Maximum panel width is 28" for PolyDesign
- One more caveat... The number of shutter panels should equal the number of vertical divisions you have in your window opening.
- Example 1: Window measures 42" x 46". Product is Standard Wood. Recommended panel configuration is 2 panels.
- Example 2: Window measures 42" x 46". Product is Standard Wood. Mullions are spaced 14" apart. Recommended panel configuration is 3 panels due to the mullions.
