Stock Faux Wood Shutters

Some of these ideas are ingenuous. We should hire some of these folks!

Joe from Maryland

I had a very wide window and wanted to mount the shutters inside of my window frame. I ordered (2) Item No. 1047 shutters. I was surprised how easy it was to switch the hinges around to bi-fold 2 panels for each side of the window. I used the mount strips and (2) EZ-strips on each side. The shutters fit together perfectly. I did have to purchase an 80-cent magnetic catch to hold the bi-fold shutters in place.

I wanted to have panels on top of each other like my mother had when I was growing up. I have been told this is a double-hung installation. My husband told me to order (2) shutter sets to fit the opening and 1/2 the height. There wasn't a height that would fit exactly so I ordered the next larger size. My husband installed them and the only thing he had to do was trim 1/2" of each panel. They are beautiful and so affordable.

I have a window that didn't fall into any of the sizes you listed. So, I ordered (2) shutter kits. I switched the hinges on one set to bi-fold and used one panel from the other kit using a mount strip on each side of the window. They fit perfectly. I am a hero to my wife. I am also happy to have found an inexpensive way to have plantation shutters. I will be ordering more for several more windows. Thanks for your cool product. PS I sold the left over panel to a neighbor.

My shutter dilemma was that I had no depth in my window to install the shutters. I ordered the shutters to mount the shutters outside the window on the wall. I tried the mount the directions suggested. The louvers could not be rotated because they hit the window. I then I installed the mount strips on either end. This moved the panels away from the window and the louvers now fully operate. They look great!

I recommend a different method for mounting your ready-made shutters, which I found very successful--using a straight, well-primed, stiff inner 1 X 2 board (or 3/4 quarter molding) securely screwed to the window-facing inner edge of each shutter with two eye hooks--one near the top and the other near the bottom. These eye hooks then allow the shutter to be slipped onto two L-screw hooks on the window frame for easy mounting and removal of the shutters. Two L-screw hooks in the outer wall of the dwelling positioned at the top and bottom of the opposite side side of the shuetter then hold the shutter securely in place from swinging away from the wall. I discussed this idea with a customer sales worker at our local Home Depot store, and he encouraged me to send it to you, since he said some of his customers were not happy about putting screws through the face of the shutters to mount them. I am retired (age 77) and have no financial interest in pursuing this idea.
